Wir sind schon wieder 6 Monate zu Hause und arbeiten seit 4 Monaten schon wieder. Fast unglaublich … als wären wir nie weg gewesen. Aber wir genießen die Vorteile einer Wohnung und des alltäglichen Lebens schon ein wenig …

We are already back home for 6 month and we already work for 4 month. Nearly unbelievable … as we haven’t been away. But somehow we enjoy the benefits of an apartment and of the daily life …

01.07.2013 - DANKE an IPV Hungen (Ezetil) für unsere neue Kühlbox / THANKS to IPV Hungen (Ezetil) for our new cooler

Unsere neue Kühlbox ist da!!! Ein dickes und großes Dankeschön an dieser Stelle nochmals an die Geschäftsleitung der Firma IPV Hungen (Ezetil). Anstatt unsere weitgereiste Kühlbox, die uns bis auf die letzten 3 Monate treu begleitet hat, zu reparieren, gab es einfach und ohne viele Worte eine neue Kühlbox. Wir freuen uns wieder über kalte Getränke und sagen an dieser Stelle nochmals vielmals DANKE!!!

Our new cooler is here!!! At this point we want to say again a huge thank you to the management of the company IPV Hungen (Ezetil). Instead of repairing our far traveled cooler, that has accompanied us faithfully until the last 3 months, they just changed it into a new one without lot of words. We are looking forward to have cold drinks and say again many times THANK YOU!!!

23.05.2013 - Abenteuer Allrad 2013

Eigentlich war ja ein Besuch in Bad Kissingen auf der „Abenteuer Allrad“ geplant – aber wie wir gelernt haben, sind Pläne dazu da, umgeworfen und werden. Da wir bald wieder anfangen zu arbeiten und wir noch so viel zu erledigen haben, fehlt uns schlichtweg die Zeit – außerdem lässt das Wetter derzeit leider auch mehr als zu wünschen übrig. Sorry, „Abenteuer Allrad“, wir werden uns erst in 2014 wiedersehen.

Actually and indeed a visit to Bad Kissingen for the “Abenteuer Allrad” was planned - but as we have learned, plans just exist to upset them. As we start to work again pretty soon and we still have so much to do that we simply don´t have enough time – especially the weather leaves a lot to be desired. Sorry, “Abenteuer Allrad” we will visit you again in 2014.

18.05.2013 - Wir leben noch ... / We are still alive ...

We are still there, don´t worry. We only have been privately really busy lately and that´s the reason why there haven´t been any updates so far. But we have 2 weeks left before we start to work again and will try to work as much as possible on the car.

04.05.2013 - Hurra, er ist da ... / Hooray, it is here ...

Heute ist er endlich eingetroffen: unser neuer alter Coleman Kocher; und was für ein Unterschied. Ein dickes Dankeschön an unseren alten Coleman Kocher, der uns die letzten Jahre über sehr gute Dienste geleistet hat. Allerdings ist er leider jetzt nach 2 Jahren Dauereinsatz einfach fertig. Und so haben wir auf Altbewährtes zurückgegriffen und freuen uns, wenn wir den Neuen bald testen können.

Today it has finally arrived: our new old Coleman stove; and what a difference. We need to give a big thank you to our old Coleman stove that did a very good service the last years. However, after 2 years of continuous use it is unfortunately just worn. And so we have resorted to tried and trusted and we are happy if we can test the new one  soon.

Die letzten Tage haben wir uns damit beschäftigt, den Dreck der letzten 2 Jahre aus unserem Auto zu beseitigen. Es ist schon erstaunlich, was sich so an Dreck in den Ritzen und Ecken sammelt, aber wir sind auf einem guten Weg …

The last days we have been engaged with removing the dirt of the last 2 years out of our car. It is very surprising how much dirt clusters in all these gaps and edges, but we are well on the way …

11.04.2013 - "Ankommen" dauert ... / It takes time to "arrive" ...

Irgendwie brauchen wir doch etwas Zeit fürs „Ankommen“ und ich bin immer noch nicht dazu gekommen, das Resümee zu schreiben – und unser Terminkalender ist erstaunlicherweise irgendwie schon wieder voll. Aber morgen holen wir endlich unser Auto ab und freuen uns schon riesig.

Somehow we still need some time to „Arrive“ and so far I didn´t find the time to finish my summary – and surprisingly our appointment calendar is already completely booked. But tomorrow we will pick up our car and we are really happy.

An dieser Stelle möchte ich mich nochmals bei allen Lesern bedanken, die uns so treu begleitet haben und für die vielen netten emails mit guten Wünschen für den Start in Deutschland, die wir vor allem in den letzten Tagen erhalten haben. Ehrlich gesagt, so einen frostigen Start hatten wir uns nicht erhofft … aber wir werden uns tapfer den kalten Temperaturen stellen: Frohe Ostern!

At this point I would like to say thank you to all readers, who faithfully followed us and for all the nice emails we received in the last days with good wishes for our start back in Germany. Honestly we didn´t hope for such a frosty start … but we will bravely face up to this cold temperatures: Happy Easter!

28.03.2013 - Angekommen ... / Arrived ...

… nach 693 Tagen sind wir zurück in Deutschland; in Empfang genommen von überglücklichen Familien und Freunden. Der erste Tag stand bereits im Zeichen deutscher Bürokratie und der „Besichtigung“ unserer Wohnung. Jetzt heißt es erst mal richtig ankommen und das wird wohl noch eine Zeit dauern …

… after 693 days we are back in Germany; welcomed home by over happy family and friends. The first day was already characterized by the german bureaucracy and the “inspection” of our apartment. Now it is time to arrive and I guess this will take a while …

18.03.2013 - Welcome to Miami

In 8 Stunden Flug schaffen wir das an Strecke, womit wir mit dem Auto 15 Monate gebraucht haben; aber wer will schon fliegen, wenn er auch fahren kann. Nun sind wir im schwülen Miami; beim Mietwagen wurden wir upgegraded (der Motor ist so leise, dass wir uns manchmal nicht sicher sind, ob er überhaupt noch läuft) und unser Hotel ist auch überraschend gut. Und ich werde mich nie wieder über den kleinen Fußraum unseres Landy beschweren, denn der ist ein Palast gegen den Platz in einer American Airlines Maschine. Dann werden wir mal den letzten Teil unserer Reise angehen und schauen, was diese Stadt so alles zu bieten hat …

In our 8 hours flight we travelled the distance for which we needed 15 month with the car. But who wants to fly if you could also drive. Now we are in the very humid Miami; for our rental car we got an upgrade (the engine is so calm that we sometimes aren´t sure if the engine is still running) and our Hotel is surprisingly good. And I never ever will complain again about the small leg room of our Landy, because this is really a palace compared to the space you have in an American Airlines plane. So we will approach the last part of our journey and we will have a look what Miami will offer to us.

17.03.2013 - Unsere langsame Heimkehr  / Our slow way home

Zuerst haben wir das Auto abgegeben (nicht wirklich schön) und jetzt genießen wir die letzten Stunden in Buenos Aires bevor es dann morgen früh in den Flieger nach Miami – unserer letzten Station – geht. Unsere Heimkehr ist irgendwie wie ein Tod auf Raten: langsam aber unausweichlich.

First we had to load our car (not really nice) und now we enjoy our last hours in Buenos Aires before we will step into the airplane to Miami – our last destination – tomorrow morning. Our way back home is like a hire death: slow but unavoidable.

14.03.2013 - Buenos Aires

Wir sind zurück in Argentinien – mal wieder. Für die letzten 4 Tage sind wir autolos in Buenos Aires; und das ist auch gut so, denn hier will man nicht wirklich fahren. Ja, jetzt sind wir wieder Backpacker und wohnen in Hostals … sehr ungewohnt; vor allem mit seinem ganzen Gepäck herumzurennen. Die Stadt ist super und wir werden die letzten Tage geniessen.

We are back in Argentina – again. For the last 4 days we are without our car in Buenos Aires; and that’s really better, because you won´t drive in this city. Well, now we are Backpackers and stay in Hostals … really a strange feeling; especially to run around with all your luggage. The City is amazing and we will enjoy the last days.

13.03.2013 - Autos bereits verladen / Cars are already loaded

Nach 2 Tagen Warten kommt plötzlich die email: alles ist bereit, es kann losgehen. 30 Minuten stehen wir bei unserem Verschiffungs-Agenten. Ein Zoll-Agent begleitet uns in den Hafen und regelt alles für uns. Auch der Container steht schon bereit – 3 Stunden später sind beide Autos verladen und gut verzurrt. Wir sehen uns in Deutschland wieder …

After 2 days of waiting we suddenly receive an email: everything is ready, we can start. 30 minutes later we are at the office of our shipping-agent. A customs broker accompanies us and arranges everything for us. Even the container is ready – 3 hours later are both cars loaded and well fixed. See you back in Germany …

Da sitzen wir nun herum und warten bis denn endlich was passiert. Gestern waren wir bei unserem Agenten und haben unsere Papiere abgegeben. Und nun warten wir auf Nachricht, dass der Zoll den fertig wird; langweilig, langweilig, langweilig …

There are we sitting and waiting that something will happen. Yesterday we have been at the office of our agent to leave our papers. And now we need to wait for a message that the customs are ready with the paperwork; boring, boring, boring …

Da sind wir, nach 2.200 km in 3,5 Tagen: in Uruguay – unserem dem letzen Land (Argentinien, wohin wir nochmals zurückkehren werden, zählen wir mal nicht) und das letzte Land wir unser Auto. Es wird wohl ein kurzer Aufenthalt werden, ganz im Sinne der Verschiffung …

Here we are, after 2.200 km in 3,5 days: in Uruguay – our last country (we don´t count Argentina, to where we will return) and also the last country for our car. It will be a short visit, just to handle the shipment …

03.03.2013 - Das große Overlander-Grill-Event / The big Overlander-Barbecue-Event

Bariloche (Argentinien): gutes Wetter, ein bunter Haufen Overlander, ein halbes Schwein, ein halbes Lamm, Rinderrippchen, literweise Wein und jede Menge Spaß … was für ein tolles Event (mit speziellem Dank an Life Remotely)!

01.03.2013 - NAVIMAG

Drei Tage URLAUB: nicht fahren, nicht kochen, nicht abwaschen, nicht einkaufen. Einfach genießen, an Deck sitzen, sich sonnen und sich unterhalten. Wir haben richtig Glück mit unseren Bettnachbarn (@Kastaniette und Don Juan: DANKE FÜR DIE LUSTIGE ZEIT!) und haben definitiv die richtige Entscheidung getroffen. Gerne immer wieder …

Three days of holiday: not driving, not cooking, not cleaning any dishes, and not buying any food. Just relaxing, sitting on deck, enjoying the sun and talking to other people. We really could be lucky with our bed-neighbors (@Kastaniette and Don Juan: THANKS FOR THE FUNNY TIME!) and we definitely made the right decision. Always again …

25.02.2013 - Torres del Paine (Chile)

3,5 Tage Torres del Paine: Wolken, Sonne, Regen und zum Glück kein Wind. Wunderschöne und anstrengende Wanderungen, grandiose Berge, viele riesige Mücken, nette Ranger und große Gletscher. Für uns definitiv der perfekte Abschluss für Patagonien.

3,5 days Torres del Paine: clouds, sun, rain and fortunately no wind. Amazing and exhausting hikes, great mountains, tons of huge mosquito’s, nice rangers and big glaciers. For us definitely the perfect finish for Patagonia.

Hier ist die Ruta 9 in Chile zu Ende: kurz vor Faro San Isidro südlich von Punta Arenas - 53,44 Grad südliche Breite ... unser südlichster Punkt auf dieser Reise.

Unser zweiter Besuch beim gigantischen Eisriesen im südlichen Teil des argentinischen Patagoniens;  ca. 23,5 km (!!!) lang, am unteren Ende 350 - 400 m breit und die frontale sichtbare Eiswand misst 50 - 70 m Höhe. Einfach unglaublich beeindruckend ...

Our second visit at this giant ice monster in the southern part of the argentinean Patagonia; about 23,5 km (!!!) long, on the end 350 - 400 wide and the visible ice wall in front is about 50 - 70 m high. It is just unbelievable impressive ...

14.02.2013 - Cueva de las Manos (Argentinien/Argentina)

Mitten in der argentinischen Pampa in einem unerwartet wunderschönen Tal liegt die Cueva de las Manos: UNESCO Weltkulturerbe und über 9.000 Jahre alt. Abgebildet sind hier über 800 (meist linke) Hände, Jagdszenen und abstrakte Figuren. Ja, es war mal wieder Zeit für ein wenig Kultur.

In the middle of the patagonian Pampa in an unexpected amazing valley you will find the Cueva de las Manos: UNESCO world heritage and more than 9.000 years old. You will see more than (mostly left) hands, hunting scenes and abstract figures. Yes, it was time again for a little bit of culture.

13.02.2013 - Reisen unter Zeitdruck und miese Wellblechpisten / Travel under time pressure and bad gravel roads

Reisen unter Zeitdruck macht keinen Spaß. Gut, wir haben nun das erste Mal „Zeitdruck“, weil wir am 25.02. an der Navimag sein müssen, aber bis dahin sind es noch viele Kilometer mit allem, was wir unterwegs noch sehen wollen. Vor allem auch viele Schotterstraßen. Und so sitzt man fast jeden Tag 8 Stunden im Auto und ist froh, wenn man 200 -  250 km schafft. Kurz: bitte keinen Schotter und miesen Wellblech mehr und keine Hetzerei mehr.

Travel under time pressure is not really fun. Well, to be honest this is the first time we have “time pressure” because we need to be on the 25^th of February on the Navimag, but until this date we need to drive lots of kilometers as we would like to see many things on the road. And we need to drive many gravel roads. So you drive every day at least 8 hours and you are lucky if you make 200 -  250 km. Summary: please no more bad gravel roads and the need to speed up.

04.02.2013 - Wir haben gerade gebucht ... / We just booked ...

... unsere Fahrt auf der NAVIMAG von Puerto Natales nach Puerto Montt. Ab 26.02.2013 geht es los: durch Fjorde, vorbei an Eisbergen und Meeresengen und hoffentlich auch an Walen und Delphinen. Wir freuen uns auf diesen hoffentlich krönenden Abschluss der Reise.

... our trip on the NAVIMAG from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt. On the 26^th of February 2013 we will leave: through fjords, past icebergs and straits and hopefully also on whales and dolphins. We look forward to this hopefully culmination of the journey.

03.02.2013 - Ruta de los 7 Lagos (Argentinien/Argentina)

Hier bekommt das Wort „glasklar“ eine komplett neue Bedeutung. Die Seen hier sind unbeschreiblich klar, türkis-blau und wunderschön. Das Wetter ist ein Traum und wir genießen die Tage in vollen Zügen.
Allerdings erinnert die Asche, die hier herum liegt macht alles recht staubig und erinnert noch ziemlich stark an den Ausbruch des Vulkanes Puyehue (Chile) im Jahre 2011.

Here gets the word "clear as glass" a complete new meaning. The lakes here are incredibly clear, turquoise-blue and beautiful. The weather is a dream and we enjoy the day to the fullest.
However, the ash that is lying around reminds pretty strong at the eruption of the volcano Puyehue (Chile) in 2011 and makes everything pretty dusty.

Ein Blick auf den Kalender zeigt uns, dass die Zeit erbarmungslos gegen uns arbeitet. Also geben wir Gas, genießen die schönen Landschaften auf dem Weg und zum Glück ist Patagonien in Reichweite.

A look to the calendar shows that the time is not really running for us. So we speed up a little, enjoy the great landscapes on the way and luckily Patagonia is already in reach.

... ist in Sicht. Wir haben unsere Flüge gebucht - komisches Gefühl. So komisch, dass wir keinen Direktflug buchen konnten, sondern erst nochmal eine Woche Stoppover in Miami machen müssen …

... is in sight. We have booked our flights - strange feeling. So strange that we could not book a direct flight, so we have to make a stopover in Miami for a week ...

06.01.2013 - Mina Maricunga (Chile)

Der einzige (sinnvolle) Weg von der Laguna del Negro Francisco (Tres Cruces NP) nach Copiapo führt über die Mina Maricunga. Hier treffen wir auf so nette und hilfsbereite Menschen, dass wir jetzt mal DANKE sagen möchten. Wir bekommen Diesel, um sicher nach Copiapo zu kommen, bekommen Snacks und Getränke für die Fahrt und einen heißen Kaffee samt Tassen zum Aufwärmen – ganz lieben Dank nochmals liebes Maricunga-Team, wir werden Chile genießen!!!

The only (useful) way from the Laguna del Negro Francisco (Tres Cruces NP) to Copiapo is via the Mina Maricunga. Here we meet such nice and helpful people that we now want to say THANK YOU. We get diesel, to get safely to Copiapo, snacks and drinks for the ride and hot coffee along with the cups to warm up - many thanks again dear Maricunga team, we will enjoy Chile!!!

La única ruta (sensata) de la Laguna del Negro Francisco (Tres Cruces NP) lleva de la Mina Maricunga a Copiapó. Aquí nos encontramos con gente muy amable y servicial y ahorra queremos decir GRACIAS. Recibimos diesel, para llegar seguramente a Copiapo, snacks y bebidas para el viaje y café caliente con tazas para recalentar - muchas gracias querido equipo de Maricunga, disfrutaremos Chile!!!

… dass man in Argentinien ist? Die Menschen schleppen halbe Kühe und Schweine aus dem Supermarkt, überall gibt es gute Kohle zu kaufen und ab 11h riecht es im Freien nach Gegrilltem … willkommen Argentinien, willkommen 2013.

… that you are in Argentina? The people buy the half of a cow in the supermarket, you can get good charcoal everywhere and starting from 11am you can smell barbecues in the public … welcome Argentina, welcome 2013.
